We drew on inspiration from the 1930s WPA National Parks posters. There has been a huge resurgence of these illustrated park posters, and they’ve been inspiring a younger generation of people that want to spend time outdoors. For the cover of the outdoor guide, we assembled some of Oklahoma’s natural features into a nighttime landscape.
The perspective of the cover comes from inside a cave, which is lit by a small campfire that’s light we can see reflecting onto the walls. The sky is lit up with stars, inspired by Oklahoma’s panhandle, which is known for its dark skies. Framing the word “Oklahoma” are five constellations that you can actually view in the state.
Oklahoma is broken into six “countries” which help categorize activities and culture within the state. Three concepts were created for the cover of the Destination Dining Guide. Two of those focused on using elements of food to represent the six “countries.” The third focuses on iconography and bright photography to show the variety of cuisine our state has to offer.
